Am I Too Old for Invisalign?

They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but there are plenty of pups out there proving that wrong. The same goes for your smile. If you’ve been thinking about getting Invisalign treatment but thought you were simply “too old,” don’t give up on your dreams just yet! Here’s why there’s no time limit on a beautiful smile!

Orthodontics and Age

When you think about orthodontics, you are likely to picture a teen or child with metal wires and brackets. But while kids are traditionally the recipient of braces, that doesn’t mean there’s an expiration date on straightening your teeth. The reason most treatment is done at a young age is because the bones in your jaw are not as solid when you’re younger, so treatment typically is a lot faster. Thankfully, while adult teeth are a bit harder to move, they can still do so; it just may take a little longer.

If you’ve been hesitant to begin orthodontic treatment because you’re afraid you’ll be embarrassed or feel self-conscious in traditional braces, Invisalign may be the perfect solution. Invisalign uses clear aligner trays to straighten your teeth. Typically, treatment goes much faster than with traditional braces, and because they’re clear, your aligners are much more discreet. In fact, you can even remove them for meals and cleaning or even if you have a very important presentation.

Is Invisalign Right for Me?

You may be wondering what makes a good Invisalign candidate. As long as your teeth and gums are in good health and your alignment issues can be corrected with aligners, you are likely to be a good fit. Furthermore, you must be prepared to wear your aligners for 22 hours a day, remove them each time you eat or drink anything but water, and brush and floss your teeth each time you eat or drink.  You must also clean your aligners at least once a day.

Remember, there’s no age limit on Invisalign, so don’t let fears about being too old hold you back from getting the smile you deserve!
